Indiana and Florida - You're Up

Abortion rights are withering away, state by state.  The lawmakers of Indiana and Florida are the latest assassins on women's reproductive rights.  Please read the following articles.

If you live in one of these states and if women's reproductive rights mean anything to you, be sure to yield a powerful weapon in 2012.  VOTE!

Nicholas Frank - Bully Teacher?

Bullying is a cause that has taken center stage in America.  Even President and First Lady Obama have used their tremendous influence and spoken openly and often about the negative impact bullying has on our society.

The typical bullying scenario pits kid on kid.  Or kids on kid.  Most bullying cases are born from insecure children projecting their insecurities on the less fortunate child who is usually defenseless and defeated.

Usually.

Enter Nicholas Frank, or Mr. Frank as he is referred to by his students at  the MicroSociety Magnet School in New Haven, Connecticut.  Nicholas Frank, grown man, teacher.

Mr. Frank, actually, I'll call him Nick.  Referring to him as Mr. lends more of an air of respect than he deserves.

Back to my point.  For reasons beknownst only to Nick himself, he singled out one of his students, and bullied him relentlessly in front of his classmates and friends.  Nick embarrassed this 11 year old child, who shall remain nameless in this blog post, by calling him a 'fish out of water,' and 'cheeks' because of his full face.  And if that weren't enough, Nick would pinch the boy's cheeks to get his point across. Nick also referred to his student as 'pregnant' because he's felt he was overweight.

Nick also resorted to limiting the number of questions the child could ask in class to 10.  No specific reason given, just because.  If he exceeded his limit, he was punished; either by serving lunch detention or having his cheeks pinched.

What was the fascination with the boy's cheeks?  Strange.

The poor child was so petrified as a result of the abuse that his grades began to suffer. He was an A student when the harrassment began, and they fell to C's by the time the truth came to light. He was afraid to attend school because of the sheer intimidation by his teacher.  Even at his age, he began to wet the bed at night.  It was too much for the child to handle.

Becasue of the boldness of the so-called teacher, who is supposed to provide a secure, nurturing environment for all students, the classroom had become a negative influence on all of the kids.  Once the bullied child spoke out to his mother, who then reported Nick's actions to his superiors,  his classmated corroborated his story and proved to be valuable witnesses.

Nick was given a slap on the wrist; eight days suspension, no pay.  Sounds like a second spring break to me.

Fortunately, the Connecticut  Department of Children and Families - DCF got wind of Nick's actions and took the punishment a step further.  After an investigation was conducted by an agent of the DCF, it was decided that Nick was indeed emotionally abusive toward his student and caused him fear the school system as a whole.  Nick was placed on the DCF central registry of child abuse and neglect!

Of course, Nick was not happy with the decision and appealed to the Superior Court of Connecticut. The Court's response to his appeal:  Sorry, Nicky.  Your reap what you sow.  The DCF investigation findings and ruling stands.  Guilty.

Poetic justice, I say.

Not Proud of You Today- Sean Duffy

$174,000 annual salary.  Hmmm, seems pretty large to me.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I were earning $174k per, wouldn't that place me in that elusive top 5% of wage earners in the US?

Now, if you were earning $174 per, do you think you'd be whining about making ends meet, much less state your desperation in public?  I didn't think so.  I wouldn't, either.

Well, not everyone thinks as we do or as seemingly practical as we are.

Enter US Rep. Sean Duffy (R) Wisconsin.

Rep. Duffy was entertaining constituents at a town hall meeting and like every other occurence in American society today, it was videotaped.  Apparently, there was a gentleman in the transportation industry (sounds nicer than bus driver) who was voicing concerns because he'd been laid off.  He has a family to support and was wondering how he was going to make ends meet.

I can totally understand that.

I guess Sean Duffy can, too.  With six kids, a mortgage, college student loans, etc., etc., a $174,000 salary just doesn't go as far as it used to.  The freshman member of Congress was quoted as saying, "I struggle to meet my bills right now, at this point, I'm not living high off the hog."

Poor baby, he even mentioned that he drives a used mini-van.

"I guarantee that I have more debt than all of you," Duffy said.  Now this post isn't about living above your means (more likely his problem), it's the whining about not having enough I take to issue.

Here's my suggestion for Mr. Duffy.  While he's roaming the hallowed halls of Congress, I'm sure he rubs shoulders with some of the most effective lobbyists working right now; Wall Street lobbyists.  He should pull one of those guys aside and get some really good fiscal responsiblility advice and perhaps and investment tip or two.

Honestly, with a $174,000 a year salary, the best health care coverage in America and untold perks that 99% of us can only dream about, whining about making ends meet is that last thing we want to hear from you.  You are not the average American.

One last piece of advice for Rep. Duffy: Maybe you should consult Kody Brown of Sister Wives fame about your automobile situation, because I'm still trying to figure out how a man with 4 wives and umpteen kids can still roll around in a Lexus SC convertible!

Who's up first? Bob Parsons

I think our inaugural victim, in our inaugural post will be Dr. Bob Parsons, Founder and CEO of GoDaddy.com.

Dr. Parsons and his cronies apparently holiday each year in a small town in Zimbabwe, where it is legal to hunt and shoot what they deem 'rogue' elephants. According to Parsons, the endangered animals are encroaching upon the villager's crops and destroying them.

So is slaughtering the elephants really the way to go, Bob?  Last time I checked this earth is on the very brink of losing elephants to EXTINCTION!  It seems to me that someone of his sizable means could organize a move and relocate the elephants to a less threatening part of the country.  He could actually take it a step further and bankroll a full-blown rescue effort, which would benefit both man and animal.  There are plenty of nature preserves where the animals would thrive.

And last I checked, isn't this Africa we're talking about?  Aren't animals supposed to run free there?

I get more than a sneaky feeling that this about a barbaric adrenaline rush and media attention (he even made a vacation video of the 'hunt') than protecting poor African villagers.
